The Rhythm of Romance

A musical percussion presentation by Dr. Ghatam Karthick
The mood for romance and sensuality can be created through music. The rhythmic Ghatam percussion of Dr. Karthik will illustrate this.
The Ghatam is one of the most ancient percussion instruments of South India. It is a clay pot with narrow mouth. From the mouth, it slants outwards to form a ridge.

Made mainly of clay backed with brass or copper filings with a small amount of iron filings, the pitch of the Ghatam varies according to its size.
Although the Ghatam is the same shape as an ordinary Indian domestic clay pot, it is made specifically to be played as an instrument. The tone of the pot must be good and the walls should be of even thickness to produce an even tone.

Dr. ‘Ghatam’ KARTHICK, a shining star artiste on his captivating clay pot instrument, is a most sought after celebrated percussionist. He has shared the stage with almost all Top ranked Classical artists. Illustrious Student of Sri.T.H. Vikku Vinayakram and Sri T.H.Subash Chandran, travelled and performed all over the world. Leads the HEARTBEAT ensemble, is a composer of many Tillanas, Kritis, Varnam & Fusion Pieces Performed with International Legendary Jazz artistes and with leading Music Directors in the Indian film Industry like Ilyaraja, A.R. Rahman and many others. Holds a M.A, M.Phil, Ph.D in Sanskrit & M.A. in Indian Music.
